Packaging serves a purpose: protection
Packaging is not an end in itself. Its purpose is to ensure that the goods reach their destination undamaged — anything beyond that is simply material that will later have to be disposed of.
That is why, for every project, we look for the most minimal solution that still provides this level of protection. It may sound trivial, but it is the aspect that has the greatest impact.
Don’t waste your breath
The most common mistake when dispatching goods is using standard boxes that are too large for the contents. The empty space has to be filled with packing material — which is then transported along with the goods.
With bespoke boxes, we save up to 60 per cent on packing material. The added benefit is that less volume also means less space required for transport per consignment.
Bulk packaging instead of individual sachets
In the textile mail-order sector, each item is often individually wrapped in plastic film. For many applications, this is unnecessary: we prioritise bulk packing wherever the need for protection allows.
When it comes to materials, we use FSC-certified paper. We only use plastic where there are no alternatives — and even then, only in the form of biodegradable bags made from maize starch.
In total, 95 per cent of our packaging is recyclable or reusable. This means the material remains in the cycle rather than becoming waste.
What we’re still working on
One area that remains unresolved is the silicone transfer paper used in textile transfer printing. We are working on ways to reintroduce it into the circular economy, and will keep at it until a solution is found.
From 2026, we will be tackling the issue of waste systematically. The aim is to significantly reduce the volume of waste generated by the business — even through many small steps.
